Project: 4,500 sq ft laboratory relocation from UNC Charlotte in North Carolina to the University of Chicago in Illinois. Crew of 8. Packing and loading took 3 days, transport 2 days, and unloading under 2 days.

Laboratory Movers has worked in the Charlotte area for more than a decade, moving labs for hospitals, private companies and universities. Recently we were awarded a 4,500 sq ft laboratory move from UNC Charlotte to the University of Chicago. A few parts of the job took some work to solve.
A small loading dock
The dock at UNC Charlotte is tight, and the job needed large trucks. It took several attempts and careful maneuvering to fit them. Our drivers are also trained lab movers and packers, which makes a real difference on a job like this.
Following the university’s move protocol
UNC Charlotte has a strict process for laboratory moves, and we followed every step. That meant arriving with the right trucks and wearing the required safety gear and PPE. Moving a laboratory is serious work, and it takes skill and knowledge.

Packing and moving
We started in Charlotte with our usual crew of 8. This was a multi-day pack and move. The team packed all of the lab’s glassware along with heavy and fragile equipment, including:
- Biosafety cabinets
- HPLC systems
- Microscopes
- Analytical balances
- General laboratory equipment and supplies
Packing and loading at UNC Charlotte took 3 days. The trucks reached Chicago in 2 days, and we had the laboratory unloaded at the University of Chicago in under 2 days.
